Not sure how I talked myself into that. I keep saying that this USU hill is harder than the beast in smithfield. So i figured out the elevation. The beast is .18 of a mile long gaining 63 feet, While the USU hill is .19 of a mile long gaining 118 feet. So the usu hill being only .01 longer climbs 55 feet more than the beast... Anyways, once I got up there I proceded to do 7. Hit them in a 1:17, 1:23, 1:17, 1:20, 1:20, 1:21, 1:17. Felt good and tired but thats expected.

Watch died on the cooldown. Hit almost 3.5 more to cooldown.
Fri, 16 Jan 2015 07:00:00 Thu, Jan 15, 2015 http://ETHANFIELD.fastrunningblog.com/blog-01-15-2015.html
Bit of recovery today with a nice long run and some fun hanging out at Conners afterward. Pretty solid pace for 9 miles at a 6:38. We had some pretty fast downhill miles in Smithfield Canyon. Hill reps tomorrow.
Thu, 15 Jan 2015 07:00:00 Wed, Jan 14, 2015 http://ETHANFIELD.fastrunningblog.com/blog-01-14-2015.html
Ran 1.5 warmup indoor with Conner.

Planned on 4 miles of good tempo. Started out a bit slow but gained speed as I went. Fortunately my break yesterday really helped. The legs felt amazing. I'm loving my current shoes as well. Hit my miles in a 5:38, 5:33, 5:29, and 5:22. A 22:02 4 mile. It was a good confidence booster after yesterday. 3 miles of cooldown to pick up shedded layers.
Wed, 14 Jan 2015 07:00:00 Tue, Jan 13, 2015 http://ETHANFIELD.fastrunningblog.com/blog-01-13-2015.html
Originally planned to do 8 today. I just felt completely awful. Legs tight and not recovering well. I reasoned to go easier today (cut off 2 miles) and hit tempo really hard tomorrow rather than screw up both days. 7:04 average for 6 miles
Tue, 13 Jan 2015 07:00:00 Mon, Jan 12, 2015 http://ETHANFIELD.fastrunningblog.com/blog-01-12-2015.html
Well, awful sleep... 4 and a half hours doesn't cut it. I need to start sleeping more or stop running.. one or the other. I started out today with a plan to do 5 hill reps on 2 different hills. The big one being harder than the beast. I headed to the big hill first. I finished 2 hill reps all extremely slow although I felt like I was gonna die. Some random college guy gave me a high-five and I convinced myself to do one more. Slightly faster but it still sucked. It started snowing harder but it was super wet snow so I couldn't get any traction. I decided to head home and try again on friday maybe. Easy tomorrow.

4.25 more on the treadmill that afternoon. I tried the Central Park programmed circuit. haha it was kinda fun.
Mon, 12 Jan 2015 07:00:00 Sun, Jan 11, 2015 http://ETHANFIELD.fastrunningblog.com/blog-01-11-2015.html Sun, 11 Jan 2015 07:00:00 Sat, Jan 10, 2015 http://ETHANFIELD.fastrunningblog.com/blog-01-10-2015.html
I woke up a bit late today so I was a bit stressed about getting up to USU on time, but it was no big deal. Got registered and started out with a mile warmup.

I did some warming up on the track and some leg swings, then got over to the start line of the 1600. I hopped in the second heat. I started on the very back outside of the line. I thought I was one of the slower ones there so I didn't try too hard to get near the front. The gun went off and I was more or less stuck for a while. The track isnt very wide and there wasn't much room to get around. I ran a good chunk of the race in lane 2 just moving around people. I just tried to hang on for the first 800 meters and then started to pick it up the last 8. I was slowly picking my way up the group and settled around the middle. I felt pretty strong and caught stockton with maybe 150 meters to go. He slipped back in front of me with 100 to go and we sprinted to the line, he got me but Jacob Malone beat us both there with a great kick. I ended up 8th in my heat and 24th out of 98 boys total. Jacob Stockton and I all finished in 4:54.. only several tenths of a second between us three. It was good and bad. It was technichally an official PR but I have ran faster outside of racing. But it was a great way to start off the season.

2.02 miles cooldown on some really sweet trails that overlooked the island all covered in fog. It was a good mental break.

After a bit of a rest I got warmed up for the 3200.

There was only maybe 10 kids tops in the 3200, maybe less. I started on the line and settled into 3rd right away. I held that for a while. I was coughing during the race pretty bad and had a little trouble breathing at first, but that went away. About 800 into the race an East kid, Chris, caught me. He pulled ahead but quit accelerating. I sat on him for a bit and then put a little surge on. He dropped pretty quick and didn't have much to cover it with. By running with Chris, it kept my pace high which helped me close in on second place. With 800 to go I thought I might be able to take second, I was maybe 3 seconds behind. We hit 400 to go and he had a pretty solid kick so I didn't gain any more ground on him. I finished third with a new PR of 10:16.53. Once again I am happy but I hoped for better.

Finished out the day with a painful cooldown with Conner and Stockton back to my house and around the block.
Sat, 10 Jan 2015 07:00:00 Fri, Jan 09, 2015 http://ETHANFIELD.fastrunningblog.com/blog-01-09-2015.html
6 miles of pre-meet running today. We ran indoors because the air quality has been making Conner cough really bad this week. It has been getting really nasty. 3 on the upstairs track 3 downstairs.. to stay sane. finished off with 4 striders. Im super pumped for tomorrow. Hopefully some good races.
Fri, 09 Jan 2015 07:00:00 Thu, Jan 08, 2015 http://ETHANFIELD.fastrunningblog.com/blog-01-08-2015.html
guess on sleep time

8 miles with Stockton and Trevor today. Trevor dropped backed a little and we planned beforehand to meet him at the church tempo road. Stockton and I within the run did 2 tempoish miles to get the legs moving. 1st one down smithy in a 5:39, and second one from the church back toward SV in a 5:40. They felt okay, but my legs are just tired from a rough week of running. We didn't see Trevor but we found out later his plans for his run changed so he met us at the school.
Thu, 08 Jan 2015 07:00:00 Wed, Jan 07, 2015 http://ETHANFIELD.fastrunningblog.com/blog-01-07-2015.html
sunnyside and smithfield canyon today with the guys. good recovery after yesterday. I felt alright but not amazing. (6:47 pace) Possibly some easy mile reps tomorrow to prep for saturdays race.

Wed, 07 Jan 2015 07:00:00 Tue, Jan 06, 2015 http://ETHANFIELD.fastrunningblog.com/blog-01-06-2015.html
I started out today planning on doing 12 or so with Conner, Stockton, and Jordan. Stockton and Jordan were feeling pretty rough after yesterdays workout so they went a different route and didn't go quite as long. Conner and I continued. I wasn't sure how hard we were gonna hit it, but the pace was pretty high. 6:20's ish on the way up smithfield canyon and 5:30-5:50's ish on the way down. So it was pretty fast. I felt really good and Conner paced me for 3 miles of tempo downhill (16:43 3 miler). We ended around 11 miles but just for fun I extended 2 miles to finish a half marathon. Average pace was 6:08. So it hurt. It was a 1:21:16 spur of the moment half marathon. It was rough but felt good to change things up.
Tue, 06 Jan 2015 07:00:00 Mon, Jan 05, 2015 http://ETHANFIELD.fastrunningblog.com/blog-01-05-2015.html
Today I did the usual beast hill rep workout. It hurt way bad.. it is 10x (.18 long hill) It doesn't sound too bad, but its a full sprint up a really steep hill for roughly a minute, 10 times in a row. I was really happy with them as they were a lot faster than last friday. My splits were :56, :59, :59, 1:02, 1:00, 1:04, 1:01, 1:01, 1:02, :55. The last one hurt pretty bad, but it was a great workout. warmup and cooldown.
Mon, 05 Jan 2015 07:00:00 Sun, Jan 04, 2015 http://ETHANFIELD.fastrunningblog.com/blog-01-04-2015.html
(guessed on sleep time)
Sun, 04 Jan 2015 07:00:00 Sat, Jan 03, 2015 http://ETHANFIELD.fastrunningblog.com/blog-01-03-2015.html
Long and easy with stockton this morning. 9 miles around smithfield just over 7 minute pace. My legs are fairly tired, but not too bad.
