Today we did 2x800 3x400 4x200 in the grass.  Not a great workout for me today, I got way too little sleep and my liver is still hurting me (feels like a severe side ache). It wasn't too hard though. My splits ranged from:

800 2:33-2:43(i think).  These went Ok

400 1:05-1:11.  These were about right(downhill)

200 35-37  Pretty slow (half up half down)

Today, We did a loop that was essentially 6 hill repeats and 6 200's.  It wasn't too hard, although after the second hill, my liver started hurting again.  It went away for the rest of the workout though.  I need to get more sleep and I have started drinking a ton of water to try and flush it out. Speed wise, the workout wasn't super quick but it wasn't slow either. Pretty average.  We are starting to taper and I think it is the perfect time, It's getting to the point where my legs don't bounce back from a workout like they usually do.

I slept pretty average but was feeling pretty tired throughout school and before the race.  I took a 15 minute nap under our team tent and then got warmed up and ready to go with the team.  It was a weird feeling when we lined up because we had been working toward this moment since summer, it was strange to realize that we're finally at region and state. The gun wen't off and I had an average/slow start, it turned out to be perfect.  I was moving up within the 1st 400 meters and we hit the gravel, still behind several bonneville kids (they start really fast)  I slipped in behind Nick and slowly made my way up.  I was feeling good and very loose, no liver issues.  We hit the mile pretty fast ( i never heard the split but was later told it was close to a sub 5, I don't know how accurate that is though.) by this point I think i was in 5th or 6th place. We went up around the big loop and coming in at 2 miles, I was running in a little pack with Travis and Mark, just hanging off the back (7th place).  Mark had this amazing surge at mile 2 (later he told me it was part of the plan) and opened a little gap, Travis and I held reasonably well, but the pace went significantly up.  at about 800 to go, mark summers was a ways ahead and Travis and I were neck and neck. I was starting to hurt pretty bad.  We rounded the corner into the last 300 ish meters and I have never kicked so hard.  He almost caught me in the final straight but I barely held him off. I ended in 6th place, and was very happy, no liver problems.  We took 2nd as a team and only lost by 5 points to Ogden. I ran a 15:51 (31 second course PR)  and 5:11 average pace. Im super excited for state xc now!

awful sleep. Wen't to bed extremely late due to a late night activity and had to wake up around 5 to drive down to snowbasin Ski resort.  We drove down to watch Brad Huber's MTB race.  He is really good and won the division 2 JV race! It was really exciting.  I ran 5 miles easy on the trails at the ski resort.  Some of the best trail running I think i've ever done, it was super pretty and nice trails. A really good mental break.

Today is generally a hard day, but we're starting our taper for state.  warmup around the block,  then an altered russian interval workout.  2x(3x300 R pace) 3x200 F pace. It felt okay, but my legs are very tired from the race/lack of sleep.  300's went 51, 54, 53, 49, 50, 52 (not super consistant) while 200's were 30, 30, 30.

Hill repeat circuit today.  Not too hard of a workout, we did the beauty 3 times+ lyons hill 4 times running tempo getting from one hill to the other, than a 150meter sprint on the run home. Not a hard workout although my legs are still tired.  The taper has been good, now i just need to work on sleep and hydrating more. (liver is barely showing up again during several workouts)

I went to bed last night at 11:00, too late. Fortunately, Sky View does a team breakfast and we get to sleep in a little bit.  I still managed pretty good sleep.  Breakfast was good, not too much, not too little.  This was alot of fun and good to take my mind off of the race.  We did visualizations and then headed to SV to load busses. We each got our own seat on the bus which was nice, so I took a 45ish minute nap.  We got to the course about when I woke up.  After watching several other races, and the after the girls raced, we warmed up.  I did a little longer warmup than usual, about a mile to a mile and a half.  We did several Up's and got our spikes/flats on.  Conner Mantz wasn't able to warm up with us due to his leg injury.  He warmed up on a stationary bike.  We got to the line, passed the uniform check (didn't have to do a last second uniform change this year), did some more strides, and warmups and got ready to go.  Fortunately, I started on the line and not behind someone.  The gun went off and I had a slow start.  I got pushed straight to the back and severely boxed in.  After roughly 400 meters, I saw my dad and he yelled to get out so I more or less pushed some kids out of the way and got to the outside where I moved up.  This was a bit rude, but I really had no other choice.  By this point I couldn't see Mark, Nick, or Travis.   Throughout the race I felt like I had more and more energy and was able to pass alot of people.  I came by Travis without knowing it because of their uniform color change. I came by Nick and Mark and thought they would stay right on my tail, but they didn't.  I kept moving up. With roughly 800 to go a woods cross kid and I were going about the same pace.  We hit the track and I started to kick, I held him off for a while but he got me by half a second.  We were able to catch Garrett Barton with about 30 meters left.  I finished 14th with a time of 16:11.  It was a really good race for me.  Last year i took 92nd. I also had the opportunity to be interviewed agian.  Our team did OK, better than last year but not quite what we were hoping for. 5th place as a team.  Alex took 6th.  Unfortunately, Conner Mantz took 2nd.  If he hadn't been injured I'm sure he would have won it.  A great experience and now I'm looking forward to more training and a good track season with these guys.

Sketchy run with Stockton up Green. Horribly inconsistent mile splits.  Our first mile we took a little steep, sketchy side/game trail and ran hiked making it like a 17:00 minute mile.  Saw lot's of bones, on that trail... a jawbone and skull, it was getting dark and super creepy we finally got back to the main trail and ran a low 6:00 minute mile and then an average mile.

Today, was the Turkey Trot annual race, Conner (didn't race but just ran the warmup), Stockton, and I warmed up in the gym around the track, just 1 easy mile to get warmed up.

The race officials had us meet inside because the weather was so awful.  We all headed outside into the crazy wind and rain and got on the start line.  One kid lined up beside me wearing only a singlet, shorts, and racing flats...crazy.  Anyways, they started the race, and that same kid and I immediately opened a good size gap.  We were neck and neck halfway up the first hill, but I surged partway up and really dropped him.  The 5k course and 10k course are the same for the first 2 miles.  I was able to get to the 5k turnoff first.  Even before any 5kers.  We cut across the road and were now facing the wind, this part was slow, and brutally cold. I widened the gap and from there it was a pretty boring race.  I got to the finish and won by maybe a minute or so in a 37:49.  It wasnt as fast as I hoped, but lots better than last years 40:02.  All in all, it was very cold, lots of fun and I ended up with 2 free turkeys! (1 for winning, 1 from a raffle) Hopefully I'll be back next year!

I went back to the track to do a few more miles later.

Haha, well in one word I would describe my run as interesting, I was originally going to do a 9 miler. 3 up to the canyon, throw on some Yaktrax, do 3 on the canyon road, and 3 home.  At around mile 3.4, (im now in the canyon), there was a couple that needed help, their car almost slid off an edge into an empty river bed ravine (sorta).  Myself along with several other people tried to help the car, (it was sliding closer to the edge extremely slowly... like as slow as the hour hand on a clock, slow.) by putting rocks under the tires, and it bought a little time... Long story short, 45 min to an hour later a tow truck arrived and got 'em out.  Anyways, I finished my broken up run. goodish pace (7:08) and it all ended up good.  HAPPY THANKSGIVING!

Today, I did our Cedar Ridge and then Golf Course routes, both extended. First route with Alex, Stockton, and Jordan, second loop by myself.  The front of my legs.. not sure what that muscle is... by my shins was tired, so hitting a solid pace was hard.. hardish day, but 6:58 pace. Good run.

Started today out with an easy warmup of about 1.5 miles.

I ended my warmup at the start line for our church run out and back tempo course. I started pretty average, but held my pace pretty steady the whole way. It was 3 miles in 16:24 (5:28 average per mile) At first, It hurt, but I really settled in and it felt really good. I hope this is still the case for track season.

Cool down with Trevor.

Stockton and I ran out to the beauty and beast hill repeat area.  We did the beast x 3 and beauty x 3.  We did the beast in 57, 57, 57 and beauty in 29, 31, 29.  It felt really good.  Then we extended up Smithfield canyon a bit.

We got back to SV and extended a bit doing a 3 mile loop. I slept 7 ish hours... I think.

I did just over 7.5 up to the canal trail that leads to the Logan River golf course.  I looped back down through some neighborhoods and headed home.  It felt pretty good, (6:48 avg pace) Good week and comfortably over 50 miles.

Later, I did an easy 2ish with my little brother Carson.  He is in 8th grade and training for XC his freshman year.  I think he will run pretty darn well.  We hit a 7:19 average pace and he has only been consistently running for about a week and a half.  We'll have to see how his freshman year goes.

First today, I did 3 miles with some of the guys, with 6 beauty repeats mixed in.  I hit most of them fast for me considering that on friday our best was a 29.  I think the splits were 27, 27, 28, 29, 31, 28 ( or something like that).  We headed back to SV and went out for another loop of 4 more. (7 total now). Conner left, and Stockton and I hit up 3 more.  Weights and Core after.  Long day, but definitely a quality run.

Started out today with a 2 mile warmup.

After a warmup, we did a timed mile. Conner paced us because he was told to do 1 tempo mile today. Stockton and I were running it.  We started off really fast, I sorta let them get ahead and just sat back.  I closed the gap and caught/passed Stockton slipping in behind conner, We did our laps in a 1:11, 1:14, 1:15, 1:10.  Stockton caught me with 125 meters to go and had a solid kick, he ran a 4:49, I ran a 4:50. It felt really good and it makes me super excited for track because that was a 7 second PR. I felt like I had alot left in me although it definitely hurt.

Cooldown up smithfield canyon a bit

Today, we did the turkey trot 10k route with a few extensions.  Stockton, Jordan, and I.  It really hurt. bad. The hills seemed to just shred my legs, and it went on forever. I guess you just have days like that sometimes.  We put down a good effort yesterday, so this was more or less expected.

Today, my run was split into 2 runs because I didn't have much time... First run @ 6 AM before school.  It wasn't too bad, just kindof slow as I was still waking up, had to run with a headlamp yet it was pretty dang warm.

After school, Stockton and I did a pretty quick 3.  I was feeling much better than yesterday, but still a bit tired.

Today I started with roughly 2 miles of warmup. After this Jordan, Stockton, Conner and I got lined up and did some tempo. Conner paced me for the last mile and it really brought my pace down.  Stockton and Jordan stopped somewhere around the mile mark but then hopped back in later. 3.2 miles of tempo 5:30, 5:25, 5:13 and a 39 200... 16:47 5k.  It felt pretty good and I tried it in spikes. Cooldown after.

Started with a warmup with the guys, then I planned on doing triple crown (hill repeats).  Conner talked me into doing miracle makers for the first time.  It hurt.  More or less, its 3x mile repeats up some of our steepest hills (smithfield canyon, beauty, and beast).  You run them pretty hard and try to keep the pace low.  I ran 5:33, 5:24, and 5:16.  It was one of the more painful workouts I've done, but I feel like It's going to help alot. Cooldown back to SV.

MERRY CHRISTMAS! Met up at Conners house today to go for a snow run, Im so glad it finally snowed!  It was pretty darn cold. I felt good, but my legs started really hurting toward the end on the last few hills.

My first 2.7ish miles I didnt GPS, but we figured the total was close to 10.  6:57 average pace.

Hill reps today, Went up to USU and started there.  Ran down to the island and did 6 hill repeats on a shorter hill there (similar to beauty)  29, 29, 29, 29, 30, and 26.  I then went to another hill (in my opinion harder than the beast) and did 3 reps at: 1:19, 1:14, and 1:20.  Cooldown to make 8

Had to stop to put on my yaktrax partway up. (7:19 pace)  I got some xc skis for christmas that I cant wait to take up green canyon!

Finally got some new shoes. Saucony mirage 4's.  They are OK but they pinch my little toe a bit.  I tried them for the first time today and they are really springy.  I love how they feel.  I ran 4 with conner and the rest alone indoor today.  The weather outside was horrible.  It was reasonably quick for having to do 118 laps haha....

3.5 miles of tempo withtin 5.7  It was really cold and I was spitting blood partway through the tempo (I think/hope it was related to the cold weather...).  The tempo went alright especially mile 1 and 3, but mile 2 was awful.  mostly uphill on mile 2.  splits were 5:37,  6:03, and 5:28 with a 2:50 ish final 800.  Went for 4 miles of nordic skiing after.

after skiing, I did 2.3 more miles on the treadmill to make 8 total.  pretty brisk but not too bad.
